Walk 12/2007 – Forest of Bowland
Friday 1st June to Sunday 3rd June 2007
Friday
We travelled up to Lancashire in two cars; one leaving about lunch time and having a leisurely drive up before the incumbants took to the pub – which was conveniently a stone's throw from the hostel. For those with a days work to do, we left about tea time and got up to Slaidburn at about 8:30 – still in time to take advantage of the £5 Friday fish meal.
This hostel is a self–catering hostel which is something we have not tried recently. We had decided that we would eat out each evening and that each of us would take our own food for breakfast and packed lunch. We decided that this worked quite well as everybody got what they wanted. As mentioned above, the local pub was just across the road and served good food and drink, so we did not have far to go to get back before the strict warden closed the doors. (The previous night he had locked two people out!)
Slaidburn is a pleasant little village and we found that this part of Lancashire is not very busy and on our walks we saw very few people.
For the small village of Slaidburn, this war memorial is quite prominent.

The Youth Hostel at Slaidburn does not look much from the front.

|
But it’s got a neat little courtyard at the back.

And a very local pub.
