Walk 12/2007 – Forest of Bowland

Friday 1st June to Sunday 3rd June 2007

Sunday

For our walk on Sunday, having booked out of the hostel, we drove a few miles to the west and parked at the Sykes car park. We set off south–east along Langden Brook before turning to the south and ascending Totridge. If Saturady was a day for Curlews and Lapwings, today was for Oyster Catchers as a group of seven to eight kept flying around emitting their now familiar cry.

From the top of Totridge we followed a path west across the peat bog, which was not too soft on this occasion. We needed to find a path heading north, but as this was not very evident, we headed off across the open moor to try and find the valley that we needed for our return. Finding the valley was not a problem, but finding our way into it across rough steep moorland was more problematic before we eventually found a path.

Once on the path we stopped for lunch overlooking a small waterfall before taking the fairly gentle stroll back along the valley to the car park.

We reach the top of Totridge.
