Walk 01/2007 – Wansford and surrounding villages

Monday 1st January 2007

Whoever decided to start at the Haycock on New Years Day? It also happened to be the the first hunt of the year so the place was packed. However it was quite interesting to see what happens when they are all standing around no doubt enjoying their stirrup cup. Eventually, the hunt master gave a very politically charged speech before announcing that they would be hunting legally and they all moved off with the pack of dogs.

Surprisingly there were not many takers for this walk, and just three of us set off for our short tour around the forests of Wansford. The weather was great with clear blue skies, so a good start to the year from this point of view. Obviously the rest of you decided you didn’t need to walk off that christmas pud.

This walk takes you through a rare breeds farm at Whitelands which provided some interesting talking points. We found a quiet copse in which to each our lunch. And not longer after we were in the Paper Mills Inn in Wansford for our post–walk drink.

Walk rating – pretty good for Peterborough

There was quite a turn out for the first walk of the year!
