Barbara took a leisurely day in Annecy whilst the rest of us took a circular walk around a local section of the lake at Sevrier but at a high level amidst the forestland. Whilst in the woodland we spotted about 10 different species of fungi in different colours and shapes. It gave us many photographic opportunities to demonstrate the floral beauty of each specimen. At some viewpoints we left the forest cover for some magnificent panoramic views over the very blue lake and surrounding mountain ranges.
Click here for a video clip of the view. This might take a while to download as it is a large file – about 7 minutes with a broadband connection.
On our return to the hostel there had been a huge increase in numbers of guests staying! A large school teenager party had checked in and the hostel was much busier in all aspects – the restaurant at meal times, the bathrooms and corridors at others!, We had been really lucky to have had 3 peaceful nights accommodation before this change of circumstances. In the evening we enjoyed another pasta meal at the hostel before walking down to the town to sample some alternative bars. Tonight was much quieter in town than over the weekend, the season appeared to be coming to a close as many bars and restaurants were not opening for business.
One bar was memorable as a distinct aroma hit the senses as you entered. Apparently most of our party put this down to the smell of French cooking and nothing at all to do with the presence of several Hell’s Angels in a confined space!
