Walk 22/2008 – Annecy, France.
Sunday 21st September
In the morning we walked up to the impressive Angon Waterfall. During our coffee break a very beautiful and perky Robin decided to join us and he gave us much amusement and photograph opportunities. At the latter stages of our progression towards the waterfall we had some spectacular views across the gorge and tops of the trees. A couple of buzzards delighted us as they were gliding above at a high level. When approaching the falls the walking involved some challenging scrambling and a fixed rope was essential to assist. At that particular moment it was questionable as to whether we were a climbing club!
Latish morning the weather changed from sunniness to quite a chill, particularly when the wind was blowing. We had a bleak lunch by the lake and dined on the inevitable cous cous and cheese baguette. Quite interesting how each individual presented a slightly different lunch for themselves but all using the same 5 basic ingredients! (bread, cheese, ham, cous cous and breakfast leftovers – honey, butter, jam etc.) – a bit suggestive of “Ready Steady Cook”!
Later in the afternoon we progressed onto our second walk in the forest and nature reserve of Roc de Chere. Lots of wooded coverage again with evidence of a variety of fungi and Judith interestingly pointed out the different firs and how the spindles grow upward or downwards dependent on the particular species.
Before going back we stopped off for a drink at a nearby bar, where we managed to totally confuse the patron, who didn’t understand our particular version of “franglaise”. She ended up bringing out different things hoping that one of them would be what we wanted.
After supper at the hostel we decided on a cosy night in the basement lounge again sampling a variety of fruit beers and some of us then choosing to opt for an early night to re–charge the batteries!

This area seemed to epitomize our alpine expectation and the “Sound of Music” came to mind..

This descend needed some care in places.
