Walk 07/2008 – Easter in Wasdale
Monday 24th March 2008
Today’s walkers were a remaining ‘magnificent seven’ from the original group of 16! Several from the advanced group had injuries and had to refrain from any further walking and take the homeward journey earlier than expected. The magnificent seven were astoundingly comprised from much of the ‘duffers’ group, one member proposed that the fable of the “Hare and Tortoise” might be a contributing factor!
We took an ascent up 400 metres, much of which was parallel to a beautiful waterfall flowing down the side of the mountain over a long distance. It was particularly picturesque as the waterfall frequently split into two or three tributaries each creating small pools and then returning its flow back into the main waterfall. As we climbed higher we reached more and more of the overnight snowfall and at the top it plateaued into a completely white terrain surrounding the secluded and beautiful tarn. It felt like reaching fairyland.
Alas after the morning walk we had to embark on our return journey home and back to reality. For most, the travel was approx. 5.5 hours but I’m sure we were all reflecting on our wonderful weekend of exhilarating exercise amongst the most majestic of scenery. We all had many happy memories to take with us and what great fun these weekends are.
