Walk 04/2008 – Ratcliffe-on-the-Wreake

Sunday 10th February 2008

Although a bit fresh to start with, this was a lovely sunny day for a walk. There were nine of us so we were able to cram into two cars. This was a pleasant walk mainly along the River Wreake although being near Leicester, you were always aware there was a road not far away.

Alan discovered that the walk went past Syston flow gauging station which he had designed many years ago. So there was a quick lecture on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction – aren’t our walks full of useless banter!

Coffee was taken sitting by the Grand Union Canal and although we struggled to find a scenic spot for lunch, we did find a convenient log to sit on.

Gordon, a new walker, seemed quite surprised when we actually ended up back at the cars. Not sure what gave him the idea we were lost!

After the walk we stopped off at the Cheney Arms in Gaddesby where we joined a group of horses having a quiet drink in the outside drinking area.
