Walk 11/2008 – Social Walk – Peterborough

Sunday 11th May 2008

There were eight of us for this first try of a mid–year social walk. The walk was around Ferry meadows which is just to the west of Peterborough. We started at the model boating lake near Orton Mere Station and walked alongside the railway line until we met the river. The walk then followed the river bank to Ferry Bridge. As we continued to follow the river through Bluebell Wood, we found that unfortunately the bluebells were past their best. The wild garlic however was in full bloom, together with the accompanying garlic aroma. We spotted the odd butterfly and we think an early dragonfly. From here it did not take long to reach the Woodman pub where we sat outside in the hot sunshine for a drink ........or two. There was then but a short stroll back to our starting point.
