Trip to Lake Bled, Slovenia

The Gorge Walk
We decided to do a local walk today to Vintgar Gorge. We set out after breakfast which involved mostly road walking to the gorge. It was rather busy with day trippers. We made our way along a narrow board walk often getting wet from the water dripping on the rocks and the splash of the water. Despite all the crowds it was a spectacular experience not to be missed and well worth the 4 Euros entrance fee. We left through the forest which was rather worrying as it looks much the same as yesterday! Luckily we soon came out to a café with panoramic views below and coffee. We continued downhill through pretty villages and returned back to the hostel for a quick stop, following which we all went on a local boat to the church on an island in the middle of the lake.
We ate out at a local restaurant and I think we all enjoyed our meals which were followed by local schnapps. [Ed – How does it go, Claire? “Down in one!”]

Would you believe this is the local supermarket where we bought our packed lunches.

This house had interesting graphics on the front wall depicting a mole using a boring auger.

We find a place overlooking the lake for tea and traditional Lake Bled cake. The waiter at this establishment didn’t endear us as he got the order wrong.

There are no motor boats on the lake. But each one comes with an oarsman.
