Walk 09/2009 – Redmile.

Sunday 5th April 2009

Today’s walk started at the village of Redmile, near Grantham. The weather was perfect. Jackie and Moira continued with their navigation training and led us round a 11.3 mile circular walk taking in views of Belvoir Castle, home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland.

We managed to stand a little too close to a parked car, when we needed to consult on directions and it’s alarm went off. We moved on quickly and unfortunately missed a turning into Tofts Lane. Never mind, we found an alternative route which took us through a wooded area with some challenging muddy areas to cross.

Wildlife seen today included hares, buzzards, a rookery and swan on it’s nest. Spring had sprung forth with fresh green shoots in trees, wild primroses and the air was filled with birdsong.

It was easy walking along a disused canal before we found refreshments at a local pub.
