Walk 18/2009 – Stanage Pole

Sunday 12th July 2009

After a couple of drop outs there were just four men who met up at the Woodman. Where have all the ladies gone? [Ed – Come on now, when was the last time you walked with a lady?] However our numbers were boosted when we got to the walk start by the Cutforth family, their friend Kath and two dogs. So our four increased to 12.

We stayed with the Cutforths until we got to Stanage Pole and then set off on our own as we had further to walk. The walk turned out to be very good, taking in Stanage Edge and Higgor Tor and then a very attractive little wooded valley as we returned towards the Redmires Reservoirs and then dropped down northwards towards the Rivelin Dams.

A part from a few spots of rain when we were at Stanage Pole, the weather turned out to be lovely. So to all you fair weather walkers, you missed a good walk.

On our way back we carefully retraced our journey so that we could have a drink in an Alpaca coffe shop. Yes, it might sound strange but there is an Alpaca farm which is a tourist attraction and has a very nice coffee shop.
